So I decided to try out some Noodlers Bullet Proof black in my Preppy last night. After reading some horror stories about Baystate Blue (which I have a sample of coming) I really don't want to try that in my Lamy. Preppy, that's a $3.00 replacement. So I emptied and rinsed out the cartridge, and rinsed the nib/feeder, etc. Grabbed a syringe and filled it up. It is amazing how much of a difference the ink made in a cheap fountain pen! The ink that it came with would lay a fat, gray line. The Noodlers is a nice thin black line. I just never realized what a difference it would really make. Now I just need to get some 1000 grit sandpaper so I can smooth out the nib a little and get rid of the scratchyness. Is that even a word? It writes so much better that I'll even use it for the Baystate blue that is on the way, while I use the new Blue Lamy (also on the way) for the Polar blue, Navy blue, and regular blue. All coming from Peartree pens courtesy their four ink sample pack. With all the Baystate blue problems though I will probably just go with the Polar since it's a bulletproof ink and I like that idea for checks, documents, etc. Pretty much anytime I sign my name. Maybe I'll post some ink tests up here once the new pen, inks and converters come in.
