SICK of snow!!!!
So it started snowing Monday night. We got about 10 inches by Tuesday, then we had another 10 inches on Wednesday. Then we had another 10 on Thursday. Then the big one came and we got about another two feet yesterday!! that puts us over 4 FEET for the week!! I'm sick of shoveling! The plows haven't cleared our cul-de-sac yet so I'm just not shoveling the driveway today. I'll wait till we can actually go somewhere.

Safety Razors
Over the past few years I've grown more and more frustrated with the cartridge razors, ie Fusion, Mach 3, etc. I'd seen a few things on the internet about the old style Double Edge Safety Razors and started thinking that I might need to give them a try. Well, I got a little bit of money for Christmas so I figured this was as good a time as any. I ordered a Parker 90R, a cheaper brush, soap, and bowl set all on Amazon. They all got here earlier this week, and Thursday was the night I tried it out. I spent all day watching the videos that Mantic59 has put up on youtube. This helped me alleviate all the fears I had about painting the bathroom red with my blood. I also learned the right way to use this scary looking tool.
So later that night after my shower I put it to the test. After getting lathered up I put the razor to face, and it shaved. There was no cutting. There was no pulling like what I was used to with the cartridges. There was just the smooth cutting of hair. About five minutes later I was done with my first pass, and nick free. Maybe five minutes after that I had my second pass and any cleaning up done. Rinsed, and felt my face. Wow this really is a lot smoother... I will never go back to the Gillette again.
One more convert to DE shaving. It really is amazing that we can all be brainwashed into the "This is better" advertising. Although, since there are now a couple of entire generations of us that have grown up watching the "More blades is better" on TV and not even realizing that there was still a choice out there.
So now I have a tub of Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandlewood shave cream on the way. I also ordered the "LetterK" sample pack of blades from West Coast Shaving. In a few weeks I'll probably order a decent midrange badger brush in the $30 range. I can also bet that within the next few years there will be a multitude of razors, brushes, soaps, creams, stands and other paraphernalia littered around the bathroom.

Avatar
Apparently Avatar was never going to be made!
I happened to be reading the "Uncle John's Slightly Irregular Bathroom Reader" while I was... well you know. What surprised me is on page 435 there is an excerpt titled "(Not) Coming To A Theater Near You", about movies that were abandoned! The first one there? Avatar!! This book is copyrighted 2004, so apparently this movie was given up on a while ago. I will quote... "Great Idea: After Titanic made $1 billion and won 11 Academy Awards, Director James Cameron could make any movie he wanted--- and this was the one he wanted to make. Set in the year 2040, Avatar follows a paralyzed war veteran named Josh on a mining expedition to the distant planet Pandora, where, through a computerized psychic link, he inhabits the body of a purple-skinned, nine-foot tall, ammonia-breathing Pandoran. Kiss of Doom: Cameron wanted to use a cast of ultra-lifelike computer-created actors. Plus, most of the special effects needed to render Pandora would have to be invented. Avatar's budget: a staggering $400 million. No studio would fund it, so the movie was scrapped." So obviously they invented the special effects. Someone funded it. I'm so glad that people like Cameron, and Lucas don't listen to other people. Movies innovate and invent ways to get the job done all the time. Star Wars, The Matrix, AVATAR!!! If the directors listened to "It can't be done" nothing ever would.Posted via email from ajkimmins's posterous

New Lamy!
First post of the year and I got a new pen today!!
So my new blue Lamy Safari came in today!!
I am still waiting on the ink samples and the converter from Peartree Pens, those got mailed out yesterday so I'm expecting them on Monday or Teusday. In the saple pack though I got Noodler's Blue, Noodler's Baystate Blue, Noodler's Navy Blue, and Noodler's Polar Blue. No this is not an ad for Noodler's. I like the Bulletproof Black, and I like the idea of it NEVER coming off the paper. I plan on using this pen for checks and other documents of the sort and would prefer that when I put my name on something, or a dollar amount, it stays the way I put it! So anyway, pen's in, ink's on the way! I don't really have any comparison for the ink, it's just the Lamy ink in here now but I will post the other four colors next week.
